What's worse than buying your own book off Amazon every hour to artificially raise your ranking?

silly. have you ever purchased a book based on its amazon ranking? i think the only time people pay attention to that number is when a) they are the author, or b) they consider the author their competition. even in those two cases it only indicates how often the book is being ordered in a single channel.

it's really meaningless. it takes only a single book sale to raise your number hundreds of thousands of spots, whereupon it immediately begins to fall again.
