I hate it too. And believe me, not an major actor in the film looks anything like anybody I've ever met from that area (OTOH some of the 'local' talent is from Virginia and they are WONDERFUL)
But what a feaking YAWN!
In 1970 I saw "The Shoes of the Fisherman" in a Catholic enclave in Tucson, Ariz. and could not take Anthony Quinn as the pope- I was almost lynched for snorting and laughing- I was a little drunk at the time.
