Excellent. I know when you asked me about the XML option a few months back I said something like "Well, if you can get it with no effort, go ahead, but it doesn't really matter cause right now it is kind of a geek thing" but I've started using it a lot over the last week or two. I'm now checking most of my daily news and blogs with an RSS reader instead of actually going to the sites. Being notified of new postings is great. You are now on my list to check that way. Woo! And I was right, it is mostly a geek thing, but hey, I'm a geek. :-)
You're losing your geek status fast -- why isn't your blog up yet? It's almost August.
Well... we tried to get cable internet way back in June. Maybe even earlier. I forget. But the cable guy who came out said he needed to run a new line from the pole in the neighbor's yard. And the neighbor had a big dog and signs saying to beware of the dog and such. So the cable guy refused to go in the yard. Said we would have to make arrangements with the neighbor for a time he could go in there safely. We thought the cable company should make such arrangements if needed, not us. And besides, we don't know that neighbor, and they have a big dog! :-)
So Brandy told the cable company to go screw themselves, and we would get DSL instead.
Shortly thereafter I went online and found a DSL provider that serviced my location (BritSys), and went ahead and placed an order and they charged the install fee to my credit card. They said 2-4 weeks to get it set up.
4 weeks later I emailed and asked why nothing had happened yet. They said the order was on hold because Worldcom said they didn't have enough IPs available for my area and the order would stay on hold until Worldcom could fix it.
I told Chris about this, and he said "tell them to call me, I'll take care of it" or something like that. I got busy though, and didn't follow up with BritSys for a couple weeks. When I did, I gave them Chris's email and number and cc'd Chris. Chris asked for an order number or some such, and they answered giving him the wrong kind of number. Chris asked again. They then answered, but not giving Chris the number he asked for, just saying Worldcom still did not have an ETA for the capacity increase to give me an IP.
That was Monday. I haven't followed up since cause I've been busy with other things. I'll follow up later this week.
Or maybe Chris can just go in and kick some ass. :-)
If it isn't resolved soon, we may try the cable route again. Maybe we'll get an installer who isn't afraid of the dog. (Which, despite the signs, I have never actually seen.)
Hey dude, get your own god damn blog! This one is MINE!
Hey, you asked! :-)
