Mommy Moans #6

Over dinner I said, "What are we going to do about these shocking teen trends when they come for Gideon?"

"The boy will be smarter than that" replied Chris.

"Sometimes smart kids do dumb things" I mused.

But honestly, how do we know if he's smart? We're just assuming because he's our son and we want to believe.

I do have my concerns. When I read Ashbery to Gideon before bedtime, I get the distinct impression he doesn't even follow the poems.

The first step is to erase your memory of all the things you did from age 1 through however old you are now.

Thanks for causing me to spit herbal tea all over my keyboard- I used to read my kids Clive Barker and they turned out okay.

I think.

and BTW- (reading backwards to Mommy moans #5) Stop watching Dr. Phil! Particularly for any kind of child rearing tips- he is an IDIOT. A rich idiot, yes, but I'm from Texas and I know.

Half the stuff he comes up with is alarmist crap- you may as well watch FOXnews for fair and balanced reporting as watch the doctor for things you need to know-
Seriously.

Well, I'll bet you anything that "If You're Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands" has worked its way into an Ashbery poem along the way.
